Acupuncture
We have several acupuncturists who work from our Centre all of who work in different ways. Please read on for more information on their techniques and approaches.
Acupuncture is an ancient oriental system of medicine which has been of great benefit to countless people over the centuries. Very fine needles are inserted into the body at very specific points discovered empirically through the ages, (predominantly by the peoples of East Asia) to effect healing in the body and mind. It does this by affecting the flow of energy/ Qi in the body to bring about harmony so the person may become well.
Acupuncture and Bodywork with Duncan McGechie BA BSc G.Dip MBAcC
The term 'Bodywork' is used rather than massage because many of the techniques utilised in restoring balance to the musculo-skeletal system are not really massage. Work with client movement combined with exercise are often necessary to effect recovery or reach a more balanced state of being.
Duncan studied philosophy before settling on a path in therapeutic work. He began with acupuncture due to his passion for oriental philosophy and acupuncture channel theory. He then broadened his skills by studying massage and bodywork modalities. Studying a diploma in therapeutic bodywork gives Duncan an insight into various techniques and styles including myofascial release and soft tissue techniques to release tightness.
Duncan will choose acupuncture, bodywork or a combination based on clients’ needs and preferences. As a way of working, the person's experience is considered of primary importance in their therapy, as opposed to seeing them mechanically as ‘to be fixed’.
He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council.
