Caroline has been actively involved in the study and practice of healing arts for over ten years.  During this time she has offered one on one sessions, taught classes in psychic development and dance as meditation practice, and has organised and facilitated workshops on behalf of others.  She has lived, worked and studied at the Esalen Institute in California and is certified in Esalen® Massage and is a member of the Esalen Massage and Bodywork Association.  She has also has a accreditations in Thai Yoga Massage, Psychological Astrology and the Body Mirror System of Healing.

Caroline’s particular interest and emphasis in massage is in Deep Tissue work.  At Esalen she studied with Perry and Johanna Holloman, developers of Deep Bodywork which they teach all over the world.  Her massage style is deeply sensitive and is strongly influenced by her dance and yoga practices, as well as her training in energy work and chakra balancing.

Caroline offers hour long and 75 minute Esalen Massage sessions in Central London.  As part of her commitment to ongoing study and personal growth she is currently apprenticed to Ya’Acov and Susannah Darling Khan via the School of Movement Medicine.

About Esalen Massage

Esalen® Massage was developed at the Esalen Institute, Big Sur, California.  The style is deeply influenced by the rhythm of the ocean, and has at its core a fundamental recognition of the importance and healing benefits of the practitioner’s quality of presence.  Esalen massage is known for its long flowing strokes, which serve to emphasize the wholeness of the body and the recipient’s experience of such, and to allow and assist the integration of deeper, more specific work.

Esalen massage incorporates and allows for influences from many other massage styles and healing modalities.  As such, no two practitioners and no two sessions are exactly alike.  Thai yoga massage, deep tissue work, craniosacral, passive stretching and acupressure are just a few of the practices whose presence may be felt in an Esalen massage session.  Particular attention is paid to the breath, as the practitioner seeks to work with the client’s own rhythm to effect the release of tension.

Esalen massage is a full body treatment, using massage oil and sometimes lotion.

Why massage?

Massage is an ancient healing art offering a host of physical and psychological benefits.

There are many different styles of massage, all base don the simple wisdom that human touch, sensitively applied, has a deeply healing quality.  Massage is a holistic treatment recognising that tension in one part of the body affects the whole, as does release of that tension through therapeutic touch.  Insofar as it offers the possibility of deep relaxation, relief of stress and accompanying emotional release, massage also recognises the interconnection of body, mind and heart.

A skilled practitioner works intuitively in response to the client’s need during a session and tailoring the massage accordingly.

The main reason to receive massage is simply that it feels great!  It offers a relaxed and pleasurable opportunity to experience “being in the body”, the effects of which can be long-lasting and entirely beneficial.  Incorporation of regular, or even occasional massage into one’s life offers immense potential for increased wellbeing and vitality.
